Google tries to present ads that correspond to your interests.

As an example, this is what Google thinks my wife is interested in from her recent Internet activity.  From this Google decides which ads appear while she is browsing websites.  zen10’s AdWords guru takes advantage of this built-in behaviour by Google for our clients every day.
